President’s report – Meeting #7 – 4th October 2018

A big thank you to Past President Andy for standing for me in my absence. From his report I believe it was a very interesting meeting despite a small members turn up.

We welcomed 5 visitors: Tim Cayless and Simone Worthing (by Rowan), Margie Prentice, our regular visiting Rotarian Joachim and the guest speaker Simone Patterson.

It was also announced that our newer members Cindy and Cary Praetor had decided to leave the country and moved to the USA.
Our guest speakers for this week was Simone Patterson who instigated and runs The Sanctuary-Women and Children’s Refuge.  The Sanctuary offers refuge, safety comfort and nutrition, and case management counselling for women and children to help repair the trauma associated with domestic violence. A very worthwhile cause.

Last Saturday Rowan and I represented our Club at the Surfers Paradise Club’s Race Day. We were joined by Rose, Rowan’s wife and a couple of Rowan’s guests Peter Duffy (Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia) and his wife Wendy. We had an enjoyable day at the races, it was a big fund raising event with over 300 guests.
Pride Of Workmanship is our premier event this year and nominations closed on 12th October for the big night on the 1st November. I ask all club members to give this community event a big support by turning up with partners, friends and potential members.
Rowan, Melissa and I will be representing our Club at the Charter Dinner of the Varsity Lakes Rotary Club on this Friday. If you are interested in being part of an historical event in our Rotary District please let Sue or myself know.
Congratulations to Melissa who won the raffle, I believe I owe her a bottle of wine!

Facebook
FB continues to be a great way to connect with members and friends. Thanks to Jill (and Harry) who
take great pics for me to upload to share the numerous social events we both host and attend.

Technology
The Board continues to find ways to streamline our monthly meetings and to use our time as
productively as possible. To that end we have adopted the use of Zoom a form of web conferencing for
some of our meetings. It allows members to participate from their desk at work or at home without the
need to travel to a location to participate.
Till next time
