Our August 1 meeting was attended by 31 members and 6 guests. A big welcome to our two newest members, John Davis (Food Services) and Ana Alexander (Management Consultant). We are now 56 strong and I expect we will soon have 60 Gold Coast Rotarians actively connecting communities locally and internationally.
Our Member Behind The Badge presentations from Nico Alfaro, Assad Sarroff and Lea Rickwood gave us insight into their lives and why Rotary is important in their lives. Eleven new members have shared their story and we look forward to hearing from all new and not so new members before the end of the Rotary year.
Our guest speaker Dr Charles Chabert certainly got our attention in his efforts to both save the lives of Gold Coast men and assist them to enjoy their lives as they grow older.
28 Members and 6 partners helped make the Botanical Bazaar a roaring success. David Baguley will report on this great achievement later this month however there is no doubt that this event will be a major part to Gold Coast Rotary’s public image and fundraising going forward.
August is Rotary’s Membership Month – what a great opportunity to invite a friend or work colleague who you think may be interested in joining us and becoming a Rotarian. Last meeting we had just two invited potential members and we will have membership applications from both before members this month.
I hear excuses like “my friends are too old” or “I retired and don’t have any contacts”. This club has four members, 40 years and under and fourteen 55 years and under. Most of us work either full-time or part-time and we all know people that we do business with and friends we socialise with. I encourage all members, new and not so new, to invite one person to attend their first meeting at no charge (as a guest of the Club) to our August 15 meeting. Make a call today, forward them this Bulletin and follow up. RSVP is August 8. If you don’t ask, you don’t get. And the worst thing they can say is “no”. If they do, then invite them to the September 5 and 19 meetings. Remember a “no” is often a “not yet” not a “no forever” and remember you are asking them to join in an experience that you know and love.
I am hoping that all members and their partners and families can join me and my wife Rose for the President’s Welcome Brunch this Sunday, August 11 (10 am in the Gold Coast Regional Botanical Gardens Benowa).
RSVP by Thursday August 8 to chawki@akgaz.net with payment of $20pp to C Gazal BSB 064 430 Acc 00293833
And you can bring a potential member to this – a great way to introduce them to your fellow Rotarians.
Look forward to catching up.
