President’s report – Meeting #8 – 18th October 2018
Another dynamic meeting thanks to 11 visitors and a great guest speaker again despite a disappointing small members turn up (15) chaired by Eddie K.
Many of us have been wondering why we have a small attendance despite good speakers which is disheartening to say the least especially for those who put a lot of effort into preparing the meetings. However an analysis of our membership reveals that out of 40 financial members, in the past 3 months:
- 7 never/rarely attend
- 8 rarely/occasionally attend
- 4 have been/are away on holidays
That leaves 21 members potentially available to turn up at any given meeting. The average has been 16/18 lately! The lesson we can learn from this result is that we need more new members to fill the room, to make our meetings more vibrant, an average of 25/28 is a good number to aim for. Support our Membership Director Rowan in bringing more potential members to his attention.
We welcomed 10 visitors: Andrew Foskett and his lady friend Peta (by Sue F), Margie Prentice, Nathan (2nd time), Chris, Gary and Ian (by Eddie K), Helen (by John L), Harry our photographer extraordinaire (by Jill E) and Martin (patissier by Jenny B).
Our guest speakers for this week was Ryan Tuckwood from ISR. This is a multi-award winning sales training and business coaching organisation. ISR help business owners, entrepreneurs and sales professionals to increase their revenue through ethical sales training delivered through innovative SWISH training academy. These founders added Glen Richards, Steve Baxter and Andrew Banks from the Shark Tank to their Board in March 2018.
Last Friday Rowan, Melissa, David and I represented our Club at the Charter Dinner of the Varsity Lakes Rotary Club at Hotel CBD. The newest Rotary Club in Australia. 90 guests present from 23 Rotary Clubs. Congratulations Charter President Peter Childe-Freeman & Team.
Pride Of Workmanship is finally on this week on Thursday 1st November. The committee of Kathy H, Rowan J, Jennifer B and myself have put a lot of effort into making this a premium event and I ask all club members to give this community event a big support by turning up with partners, friends and potential members. We have selected 9 awardees and expect up to 80 attendees which promises to be an exciting evening.
All nominees will be presented with a Rotary Pride of Workmanship trophy. The aim is to encourage a much-needed pride in personal performance in the workplace and provide an excellent opportunity for our Rotary Club to promote its image, gain access to organisations for vocational visits and develop potential membership, whilst at the same time providing an avenue for small business to recognise individual effort.
Objectives of Pride of Workmanship Awards:
• To promote Vocational Service.
• To encourage Pride of Workmanship in all vocations.
• To provide employers with an opportunity to recognise employees who display the qualities worthy of an Award.
• To encourage favourable employer/employee relationships and a sense of community pride in individual achievement.
• To provide an opportunity for Rotary to be involved in the community, particularly the business community.
