Presidents Message 07 October

Greetings Fellow Rotarians! Thank you for your fellowship at our last meeting, where we were lucky enough to meet a representative from the wonderful organisation dedicated to helping victims of Domestic Violence; RizeUp. If you were in attendance on the evening, there is no doubt you felt the powerful message that was delivered, particularly through the short video that Michael shared with us on the night. John Davis our Community Director will continue discussions with RizeUp to ascertain what other areas we may be able to help with, including fitting out homes as they become needed, and will keep us updated with information as it comes to hand.

Our next club meeting is at the Southport Golf Club on Thursday 15 October where our Guest Speaker for the evening will be current District Governor Andy Rajapakse, and joining him will be current Assistant District Governor, Sheila Ponting.

Also on this evening, we will be raising awareness and funds for Mental Health through Hat Day! Not long to go now to turn those fantastic design ideas I know you all have, into an actual hat. Don't forget to bring a gold coin donation to go towards raising funds for this great cause.

As discussed at our last meeting, I have grave concerns for the safety of Lord Baton :) Hopefully we will have him back safe and sound at our next meeting where no doubt he will be keen as mustard to continue his travels with other members of the club.

Until next time, please take care and if you need anything at all please feel free to contact me via phone on 0433 069 174 or email melissaneilsen1979@gmail.com

Hat Day in October

Every October, Australian Rotary Health encourages Rotary Clubs, businesses, and individuals to get involved in Hat Day as part of ‘Lift the Lid on Mental Illness’, our national fundraising and awareness campaign for mental health research.

This October our Club will be holding a Hat Day at our Meeting on Thursday 15 October, 2020.

It's time to get creative and start putting together ideas and build your special Hat to wear on the evening. The most impressive hat on the night will win a prize!

Not feeling creative? No problem! Just wearing a hat and donating on the night is still a great way to contribute.

Each participating member is asked to wear a hat and donate $2 towards this great cause. In addition to this all funds raised from the Sergeant at Arms pot on the same night will also be donated.

Did you know that almost one in five Australians will experience a mental illness every year, and nearly half of the population (45%) will experience a mental illness at some stage in their lives? What better reasons to join and help out.

See you on the night in your hat!

Polio Train

TRAIN RIDE TO HELP END POLIO - Friday 23 October

Join us in helping to celebrate the achievements and raise awareness of Rotary towards the eradication of Polio and Rotary as a whole. This year there will be a train ride from Gympie to the Gold Coast and back again on Friday 23 October.

Jump on the train and/or support the train as it comes through the various stations with fellow Gold Coast Rotary members on the platform between 3 and 4.30pm.

We are currently finalising the details with the Assistant District Governor in terms of the exact station and numbers our club members will be at; once all these details are confirmed we will communicate this to you via email and at the next club meeting on 15 October.

On the day we ask that you wear your Rotary Shirt and we have ordered a number of bright Red Polio Caps for those participating to have the chance to wear. I hear Lord Baton will also be making an appearance so it's sure to be a fantastic afternoon.

Let's get out together and help to support this fantastic cause and Rotary!

• SELECTION OF 9 PRE-TASTED WINES
• YOU PROVIDE YOUR IMAGE TO PERSONALISE LABEL
• CLUB HAS FUN LABELLING WINE

Gold Coast Rotary is partnering with the Rotary Club of Jindalee to again present a selection of wines with Personalised Labels.

In case you have not been involved in this great program before, let us explain. We purchase unlabelled wine and we are free to label them as we wish, so long as the label has the appropriate legal notations.

In the picture below are a few examples of labels that have been produced in recent years. You will notice that the surrounds of the labels are all the same with the central section showing the personalised image/logo +/- message.

Your company logo, photo or message makes this a very personal gift. Various fonts are available and full colour printing is used to give a highly professional image. This is a great promotional tool which has proven to be very successful in the past.

The wine is supplied to the Rotary Club of Jindalee Inc. unlabelled, and the labels which have been designed by us are then printed (also by us) with your chosen photo/logo +/- message which needs to be provided by yourself or by your customers.

The logos must be provided in JPG format and should be an original copy (not copied from a web page, or scanned from a letterhead) for best result.

The Deadline

We are aiming to finalise the project as early as possible this year to allow you ample time to distribute the wine to your clients. Therefore, we need the final orders returned to Jindalee Club by 31st October to ensure that the delivery is made by the middle of November. We hope that we have the timing right for you to organise these wonderful Christmas gifts for you, your clients or staff. Should you need wine prior to mid-November, please let us know.

How to Order

Gold Coast Rotary will collate all orders and send to Jindalee Rotary.  Members should complete the order form that was emailed to them and send to David Baguley dbaguley47@gmail.com

Where does the money go?

Rotary Clubs around the world are committed to working in their local communities as well as for much larger causes, such as the eradication of Polio, supporting the Nepalese community through COVID-19 with medical equipment and supplies, and providing medical assistance for children in some of the poorer countries through ROMAC and Interplast, and many other worthwhile projects.

By purchasing our wine you can help us to continue with these projects and to initiate even more. Rotary projects generally do not attract administration costs so you can be assured that the maximum amount of every dollar raised is put to good use.
