President’s Message
Our July 18 Programs & Projects meeting was an inspiring evening and a great way to start the new Rotary year!
32 members and 6 guests heard from Executive Secretary David Baguley on what is planned for the next 12 months and the roles needed to be filled to achieve this.
July is Rotary’s Month of New Leadership. 29 members have put there hand up (a good number put it up a few times) to play a role/s in 2019/20, including all our new members . Program Managers will be in touch with you to begin work on the projects and programs you have expressed interest in getting involved with to make a real difference to the lives of those we will be connecting with in 2019/20.
To those 22 members not with us last Thursday, do not worry, you have the opportunity to choose your role/s by contacting David Baguley or myself or the Program Managers in the next two weeks. If you don’t call us, we will call you. I am hoping we can have all members actively involved in at least one program and project by our next meeting on August 1.
Club Admin – Mark Urquhart (Program, Format, Schedule, Member Communications, Social)
Membership – Kathy Hogan (Recruit, Retain, Educate & Engage Members, Corp Partners)
Public Image – Jennifer Bailey (Media, Website, Bulletin, Advertising & Marketing)
Service Projects – Kate Kimmorley (Vocational, Community, International, Club Projects)
Rotary Foundation & Fundraising – John D’Anna (The Rotary Foundation, Polio, Malaria, Grants)
Youth - Suzy Foskett (RYLA/RYPEN/RYTS/NYSF/RYDA/Youth Development)
A big welcome to our three newest members, Aldwyn Altuney, Sue Geelan and David Geelan. We are now 54 strong,
with another three membership proposals to be in front of members in the next couple of weeks.
This year we are continuing with our Member Behind The Badge presentations at Dinner meetings. Catherine Palin-Brinkworth gave us a snapshot of her amazing life, her plans for the future and why Rotary is important in her life.
In August we continue with our new members sharing their stories. From September, we will be hearing from a mix of new members and not so new members each meeting which I am very much looking forward to.
I ask all members to set aside 5 minutes this week to complete the Member Satisfaction Survey. The power of our club lies in our members. I want to know what you like and don’t like about your club experience so we can develop an action plan that builds on what members like and stop or change what members aren’t satisfied with.
August is a big month for Rotary on the Gold Coast. Our Botanical Bazaar at Country Paradise Parklands, Nerang
(Sun 4 August), President’s Brunch at Gold Coast Regional Botanical Gardens Benowa (Sun 11 August), Gold Coast Rotary Dinner Meetings at Southport Golf Club (Thursday 1 and 15 August) and a Combined Rotary & Southport Chamber of Commerce Breakfast at Southport Yacht Club (Friday 23 August). See details below.
August is also Rotary’s Membership Month – what a great opportunity to invite a friend, work colleague or family member who you think may be interested in joining us and becoming a Rotarian. I encourage all members to invite one person to attend their first meeting at no charge (as a guest of the Club) to either or both of our August meetings. Make a call today, forward them this Bulletin and follow up. RSVP for the August 1 meeting is July 26.
